PUTRAJAYA – The Agriculture and Food Industries Ministry will revoke the approved permits (APs) of any entity or person found to be in cahoots with the “meat cartel” that has made the headlines in recent weeks, said Minister Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee.
“If there are AP holders involved, we will not hesitate to revoke their APs,” he said after launching the ministry’s anti-corruption campaign here today.
He was asked to comment on the action that will be taken against permit holders involved in the scandal.
He said the authorities are investigating claims that imported meat is being passed off as halal for sale in Malaysia.
“I, as agriculture minister, do not protect any ministry staff who might be involved… We want an in-depth investigation into this issue.”
On Thursday, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission arrested two officers with the Johor Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department on suspicion of being involved in the scandal.
The department, on December 2 last year, brought to light the cartel’s activities. – Bernama, January 11, 2021
