[UPDATED] 2,232 new infections today, Selangor again leads tally

KUALA LUMPUR – The country today sees 2,232 new Covid-19 cases, again breaching the 2,000 mark, and taking the national total to 138,224, reported the Health Ministry.

The bulk of the infections were recorded in Selangor, with 557.

Another four fatalities were registered, pushing the death toll to 555.

Malaysia still has 28,554 active cases, with 187 in intensive care and 87 on ventilators.

The ministry logged another 1,006 recoveries, bringing the total to 109,115.

Of today’s fresh cases, six were imported, citizens (1,769) and foreigners (457).

Johor recorded the second highest number of cases with 396, followed by Sabah (374), Sarawak (153), Penang (112), Negri Sembilan (102), Kelantan (95), Perak (51), Pahang (46), Terengganu (41), Kedah (40), Melaka (37), Putrajaya (13), Labuan (8) and Perlis (3).

Three of the four deaths recorded today were in Sg Buloh Hospital, involving two men and a woman aged between 47 and 56. The other death was of a 50-year-old man at Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan.

Noor Hisham said 194 cases today involved clusters at lock-ups, immigration detention centres and prisons – Tembok Choh (157), Jalan Harapan Prison (20), Tembok Gajah (12) and Pagar Siput (5).

He added that, as of today, 594 clusters have been reported, including eight new clusters, with 336 clusters ended.

Of all active clusters, 68 reported new cases – Tembok Choh, the highest with 157 cases, followed by Teratai (83) and Beringin (48).

The new clusters are Jalan Keluli in Kota Tinggi, Johor Baru, and Segamat in Johor with 42 cases; Medan Idaman in Cheras and Titiwangsa; Kuala Lumpur with 10 cases, Jelita in Miri, Sarawak with eight cases; and, Kg Geting in Tumpat, Kelantan, with 35 cases.

Other new clusters are Lumut Barat in Manjung, Perak, with 11 cases; Kubang Bujuk in Kuala Terengganu with 10 cases; and, Kerjaya in Dungun, Terengganu, with nine cases. – The Vibes, January 11, 2021
