KOTA KINABALU – Close to 2,000 people have been displaced by floods in three Sabah districts following intermittent rain yesterday.
According to revised numbers released by the Civil Defence Force (CDF) at noon today, there are 1,815 evacuees at makeshift shelters in Kudat, Kota Marudu and Pitas.
Kudat has the highest number of flood victims at 1,037, and they are housed at SK Tun Dato Hj Mustapah (90), SK Sikuati (932) and Rest House Lama Karakit (15).
This is followed by Kota Marudu with 719 people, and Pitas (68).
CDF said Beaufort and Tongod, too, are hit by floods, but no evacuations have been reported.
Overall, 90 villages and 562 households were affected by downpours in the state yesterday.
Sabah Meteorological Department director Amirzudi Hashim said a red alert has been issued for the state, with rains expected in Ranau, Kota Belud, Sandakan, Telupid and Beluran. – The Vibes, January 12, 2021
