SIBU – The first Covid-19 drive-through screening centre was opened in town yesterday to complement the operation of three existing screening centres here.
The drive-through centre is located at the Sarawak State Library building, and is open from Monday to Saturday from 8am to 4pm. Services provided are free of charge.
Sarawak Housing and Public Health Assistant Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee said there is no need for the public to make an early booking to visit the centre.
“Those who are driving need not park their vehicles, as they can just drive past (the centre), just like a normal drive-through service. This is easier and can reduce congestion.
“With more centres, more Covid-19 screenings can be done, and the sooner we get to detect positive cases.”
The three existing screening centres, which opened on January 10, are at Lanang health clinic, Sibu Jaya health clinic and Sibu Indoor Stadium.
The cost of screenings at the four centres will be fully borne by the state government.
According to Dr Annuar, who is Nangka assemblyman, about 4,000 people have undergone Covid-19 screenings at the three centres.
He urged those who have symptoms or have been in close contact with Covid-19 patients to get tested. – Bernama, January 13, 2021
