SHAH ALAM – Obligatory and Friday prayers at mosques and surau in Selangor will be suspended during the implementation of the 14-day movement control order (MCO), which starts today.
Selangor Islamic Religious Department director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said Friday prayers will be replaced with Zohor prayers at home during the period.
However, he said, for selected mosques and surau permitted to hold Friday and obligatory prayers, only five of the mosque or surau officials are allowed for each prayer at one single time.
On marriage solemnisation, he said it will be conducted via video conference only for couples who have obtained permission to get married and the marriage date set by the District Islamic Religious Office or mosques concerned.
“The ceremony will be conducted by the registrar (of marriage) at the office, while the bride, groom, wali (guardian) and two witnesses will be at home.
“The district religious administrative officer will set the ceremony based on the appointment that has been arranged.”
Meanwhile, Shahzihan said the department’s main services, especially those involving marriage, divorce and reconcilement, will be conducted online, adding that the department has also set up 10 phone lines for the public to ask for consultations and make appointments.
