PUTRAJAYA – Eight tabligh members returned home from New Delhi, India, yesterday after the Patna High Court in Bihar decided to quash charges against them for abusing their social visit passes.
In a statement yesterday, Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar said all of them arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 3.58pm yesterday.
With the return of the group, he said, only one member is awaiting a court decision in Kishanganj, India.
“The Foreign Ministry, through its representatives in New Delhi, will continue to monitor the development of the case, and cooperate with local authorities to coordinate efforts to bring home the man after his release,” he said, adding that the men will undergo a 10-day quarantine at an isolation station set by the government.
Kamarudin said with this latest update, the ministry has successfully brought home 188 of 189 Malaysian tabligh members from the South Asian country.
He said last year, 180 members were brought home through a series of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions.
He added that the ministry expressed appreciation and gratitude to all government agencies involved, especially the National Disaster Management Agency and Health Ministry for their continuous cooperation and commitment in making the mission a success.
