KUALA LUMPUR – The Royal Malaysian Police is ready to cooperate with its South Korean counterparts to help track down a Malaysian woman, allegedly involved in a theft case at the Jeju Shinhwa World’s Landing Casino in the East Asian nation.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department deputy director (intelligence/operations) Datuk Dev Kumar said until now, police have not received an official request from the South Korean authorities to track down the suspect, who was employed as an executive at the casino.
“We are still waiting (to see) if the South Korean police want to ask for help to obtain information on the case, and if they are conducting an investigation or tracking down the woman involved.
“If there is an application through official channels, and the woman is legally here, we are ready to help.”
Foreign media yesterday reported that the authorities found a pile of money, amounting to 8.1 billion won (RM29.9 million), at the residence of a female executive believed to be a Malaysian citizen. She is now the main suspect in the case, following a theft at the casino last week.
The report said 14.56 billion won was reported missing from the gambling centre. – Bernama, January 15, 2021
