Expect delayed deliveries during MCO, say courier companies

KUALA LUMPUR – Courier companies said there will be a disruption to their services following the reimposition of the movement control order (MCO).

The Association of Malaysian Express Carriers (Amec), in a statement today, said this is due to flight cancellations between the peninsula and East Malaysia, as well as other MCO restrictions.

This may result in customers’ package deliveries being affected, it said, adding that “on the other hand, industry players must adapt and quickly reorganise to deliver and meet increasing demand”.

The group has declared a force majeure until such time that the Covid-19 pandemic is contained and transport services return to normal.

“Amec gives an assurance that members licensed under the Postal Services Act 2012 are taking precautionary measures to comply with provisions under the Guidelines and Preventive Measures on Postal Service Providers, as prescribed by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.”

It said it supports the government’s measures to flatten the coronavirus curve.

The MCO is in place in Penang, Selangor, Melaka, Johor, Sabah and the Federal Territories from January 13 to 26.

Pahang, Perak, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan, meanwhile, are under the conditional MCO, while Perlis and Sarawak are under the recovery MCO. – Bernama, January 15, 2021
