KUALA LUMPUR – The country today logged 3,211 new Covid-19 cases, again breaching the 3,000 mark, and as Kelantan prepares to join six other states currently under the movement control order (MCO).
Malaysia’s coronavirus tally now stands at 151,066.
Another eight fatalities were registered, increasing the death toll to 586.
Only one of the deceased was a foreigner.
The MCO is in effect from January 13 to 26 in the Federal Territories, Penang, Selangor, Melaka, Johor and Sabah, and will be imposed in Kelantan from tomorrow until January 26.
Meanwhile, recoveries almost hit the 2,000 mark today at 1,939.
The state that recorded the highest number of infections remains Selangor with 890 cases, followed by Johor (535), Sabah (514), Kuala Lumpur (405), Penang (194), Kedah (142), Terengganu (92), Kelantan (79), Perak (74), Pahang (70), Negri Sembilan (70), Sarawak (60), Melaka (58), Putrajaya (24) and Labuan (9). Meanwhile, Perlis recorded no new infections.
On clusters, the Health Ministry said 12 new ones have been identified, namely the Jalan Telok Gong cluster, Lingkaran Lintang cluster, Persiaran Selatan cluster, Jalan Kluang cluster, Kg Perani cluster, Ladang Baturong cluster, Ladang Matamba cluster, Bina Damai construction site cluster, Pondok Hidayah cluster, Kota Road cluster, Tembok Kemus cluster and the Restoran Putra cluster.
The Health Ministry added that 204 Covid-19 patients are currently in intensive care, with 87 requiring breathing support. – The Vibes, January 15, 2021
