KUALA LUMPUR – All secondary school students not sitting for last year’s major exams will be undergoing online classes, said the Education Ministry today after a consultation with the National Security Council.
In a statement shared by Education Minister Mohd Radzi Md Jidin, students who were supposed to have their major exams last year are required to attend school starting January 20.
This includes those sitting for SPM, SVM, SKM, STPM, STAM and vocational diplomas as well as equivalent international exams for the year 2020.
All other primary and secondary school students (Standard 1 to Form 5) will undergo online learning starting January 20.
Meanwhile, all teachers are instructed to return to where they are stationed before January 20.
Teachers who are involved with the 2020 exam classes will have to conduct online learning from their schools while the physical attendance of other teachers will be decided by the heads of each education department.
As for Form Four and Four Five students who have registered for boarding schools today, they are allowed to remain at their hostels and continue online classes or given the chance to return home.
Parents and guardians are allowed to pick up their children according to existing standard operating procedures.
Form Five (2020) and Form Six boarding school students are required to attend physical classes until their exams are over.
Boarding schools will provide food and drink for students staying at the hostels.
Matriculation college students are required to remain on premises to undergo hybrid learning.
Students in teachers’ learning institutes who are already in their hostels are required to remain there, while those who have yet to register can choose to remain home or head to the hostels.
Online learning for students in teachers’ learning institutes starts tomorrow. Their internship and placements will be decided at a later date.
In the meantime, all private kindergartens registered with the ministry are allowed to have physical classes.
Schools not under the ministry’s purview are advised to adhere to this directive. – The Vibes, January 16, 2021
