S’wak top cop vows thorough probe into teen’s alleged rape in lock-up

KUCHING – Police are investigating a 16-year-old girl’s claim that she was raped by a male detainee at the Miri station lock-up on January 9.

Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail gave an assurance that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine whether there are elements of negligence in the case.

“Two police personnel on duty on the day that the incident allegedly took place have been immediately suspended,” he told Bernama last night.

Senator Alan Ling Sie Kiong, in a Facebook post earlier in the day, said the teen has lodged a police report on the incident. – Bernama, January 17, 2021
