KOTA KINABALU – The authorities must take action against a group of individuals caught on video drinking beer at a Covid-19 quarantine and low-risk treatment centre in Sabah, a clip of which made the rounds online yesterday, said the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs).
President Adnan Mat, in a statement today, said their action was disrespectful to frontliners, who have made tremendous sacrifices in the fight against the pandemic.
Drinking alcohol at the health facility may cause other patients to feel uncomfortable, he said, adding that the situation could give rise to other problems.
“Cuepacs wants action to be taken against those who supplied the alcohol to the patients.”
Disciplinary action must be taken against security guards, or even health workers, if they are found to be involved, he said.
“This matter should not be underestimated, and the authorities should not protect the guilty. As responsible citizens, we should always be disciplined and abide by the rules, especially those being treated by health workers.”
Sabah health director Dr Christina Rundi told Bernama that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
She stressed that consuming alcohol is not allowed at Covid-19 quarantine centres. – Bernama, January 17, 2021
