KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has activated disaster operations control centre in several districts affected by floods.
The affected districts include Pitas, Beaufort, Paitan, Kota Kinabalu, Putatan, Penampang and Kota Belud.
“The government, through the Sabah Social Welfare Department and National Disaster Management Agency, has channelled assistance in the form of cooked food to all evacuees and RM200 worth of food baskets to each household.
“Nadma will also distribute RM500 in aid to each family. This will be coordinated by the Civil Defence Department and the related district offices,” he said in a statement here today.
Hajiji visited several affected areas today, including the Seri Sulaman Hall evacuation centre and Kg Kegayungan in Tuaran, as well as the Likas Community Hall evacuation centre, which currently has 46 victims from seven families.
He also inspected the flood situation in Donggongon, Penampang, and then visited the evacuation centre in Penampang Sports Complex where he handed essential items to the victims.
A total of 52 victims from 12 families were at the centre.
He said he will visit other affected districts tomorrow, and asked for the state disaster secretariat to keep him updated of the flood situation in Sabah.
Meanwhile, state Community Development and People’s Welfare Minister Shahelmey Yahya reminded the people the threat of Covid-19 still looms even as they continue to face natural disasters.
“Even as we face floods, I would like to remind the people to adhere to the standard operating procedures so that Covid-19 will not spread any further during these trying times,” he said.
As of 4pm today, 348 flood victims from 91 families in Pitas, Beaufort, Paitan, Kota Kinabalu, Putatan, Penampang and Kota Belud have been rescued and brought to evacuation centres. – The Vibes, January 17, 2021
