KUALA LUMPUR – Umno’s annual general assembly, which was set to be held at the end of this month, has been postponed indefinitely, with a new date to be fixed later.

The party was to have formalised a resolution by its divisions to sever ties with Bersatu and withdraw support for the Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin-led Perikatan Nasional government during this year's meeting.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan today said the decision to postpone the annual assembly is in view of the nationwide emergency declaration and implementation of the movement control order.

“A new date will be announced soon,” he said in a statement.

Ahmad said Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has also agree to hold the party election at all levels on an appropriate date later this year.

According to its constitution, the party must hold its election every three years, with the last one held in June 2018.

“I also wish to remind all Umno members to always abide by the standard operating procedures (SOPs) that are in place to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“In the meantime, all Umno members are urged to close ranks and focus on issues concerning the rakyat in this difficult time.” – The Vibes, January 18, 2021
