[UPDATED] Second highest tally of 3,631 new infections today

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia registered 3,631 fresh cases of Covid-19 today, the second highest daily count in the country since the pandemic began.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country also recorded 14 deaths, bringing the death toll to 619.

Today’s new infections, which includes seven imported cases, has pushed the cumulative tally to 165,371.

The country also saw a record high of 2,944 recoveries, bringing total recoveries to 125,288.

Of the current active cases, 238 are under intensive care while 96 require intubation.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases at 1,199, followed by Sabah (526), Kuala Lumpur (521), Johor (368), Sarawak (156) Negri Sembilan (139), Perak (135), Penang (124), Melaka (122), Kedah (114), Terengganu (33), Pahang (31), Putrajaya (26), Perlis (3), and Labuan (1).

Dr Noor Hisham said 310 cases reported today involved immigration detention centres and prisons, including the Jalan Sg Jelok (217), Jalan Harapan prison (47), Tembok Nanas (22), Damai Pelangi (19), Tembok Mempaga (three), Matambai (one) and Telok Mas (one) clusters.

Half of the deaths today were recorded in Selangor, involving five men and two women aged between 46 and 74. Johor saw two deaths, both men, aged 71 and 72.

Perak, Kedah, Kelantan, and Labuan recorded one death each, involving two men and two women aged between 60 and 85.

Dr Noor Hisham said the country has recorded a total of 669 clusters to date, including nine new clusters today. Ended clusters stand at 364, including the Jalan Tengah construction site, Inten, and Jambatan B clusters.

He said there are currently 305 active clusters being monitored, of which 82 have reported new cases, including the Jalan Sg Jelok prison cluster (217), Jalan Selayang cluster (188), and Pasai cluster (90).

Dr Noor Hisham said other than the Jalan Sg Jelok prison cluster, the new clusters today are the Jalan Masjid cluster (Lembah Pantai and Kepong) involving a textile company in Jalan Masjid India with 16 cases, and the Jalan Taruka cluster in Johor Baru with 38 cases.

Also on the list are the Taman Sayong Pinang (Kota Tinggi, Johor – 18 cases), Sri Gading (Batu Pahat, Johor – 7 cases), Rakut (Miri, Sarawak – 10 cases), Kupang (Baling, Kedah – 14 cases), and Kebor Air (Kuala Terengganu, Kuala Nerus, Setiu, and Dungun in Terengganu – 18 cases) clusters.

The list of new hospitals that have been designated as Covid-19 hospitals and total number of beds allocated for Covid-19 patients in the new hospitals, are as follows:
