KUALA LUMPUR – The Covid-19 virus continues to spread among political leaders in Malaysia, with Pasir Salak MP and Prasarana chairman Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman confirmed to have tested positive this morning.
"On January 19, Tajuddin underwent Covid-19 screening and was confirmed positive today. Those who were in close contact with him, it is best that they perform a swab test.
"Tajuddin apologises for any inconvenience caused," a message on his Facebook account said.
It is understood that Tajuddin was present at a press conference with fellow Umno parliamentarian Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz, in which the latter had announced his withdrawal of support from Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Nazri, who Padang Rengas MP, had tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday, after the Health Ministry confirmed another individual at the same press conference was positive for the virus.
A string of other politicians has also tested positive for the virus, drawing netizens on social media to refer to the situation as a "cabinet cluster".
Yesterday, National Unity Minister Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique had also tested positive for Covid-19, making her the fifth cabinet member to be infected.
The first case was Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri, who tested positive on October 5 last year, followed by three ministers this month – Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed; Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun; and, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin. - The Vibes, January 20, 2021
