MIRI – The authorities have located 23 coronavirus-positive individuals in Sibu who were earlier reported untraceable.
Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee, in a statement on social media today, said all the patients were accounted for as of this afternoon.
“Ten have been brought to hospital. The rest have also been found, the last at 12.45pm.
“All of them are in the process of being isolated and transported to hospital.”
He said the state’s health teams are working to trace the patients’ close contacts.
Sarawak Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, in a Facebook post earlier today, said the whereabouts of the 23 individuals were unknown despite the authorities’ frantic efforts to trace them.
They tested positive for the coronavirus in public screenings conducted in Sibu town over the last few days.
“We understand that there are 23 Covid-19-positive patients from the Sibu screening operations who cannot be contacted as yet for various reasons.
“We may be forced to publish their names in the interest of the public.
“Though we have so far protected the identities of people found positive for Covid-19, we may have to reveal their identities in the interest of their families and friends, and the public.”
He warned that there may be other virus-positive individuals walking about freely in the state.
“There may be many infected people, who are symptomatic or asymptomatic, walking among the community.”
He also said Miri may soon end up under the movement control order, which is in place in Sibu, due to its worrying increase in infections. – The Vibes, January 20, 2021
