KUALA LUMPUR – A village in Perak will be placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) for two weeks from tomorrow to February 3, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced today.
The senior minister, in a statement, said 494 residents of Kg Orang Asli Batu 6 in Jalan Pahang, Batang Padang, will be affected.
He said the decision was made at today’s special National Security Council meeting on Covid-19, following the Health Ministry’s advice and risk assessment.
Twelve coronavirus cases were recorded in the village from January 14 to 18, he said, with 87 close contacts currently under quarantine.
“The implementation of the EMCO is to control residents’ movements, and to allow the Health Ministry to conduct targeted swab testing in the locality.”
The entire country is under the MCO save for Sarawak, which is observing the recovery MCO.
Ismail Sabri said 752 individuals were arrested yesterday for violating health and safety standard operating procedures, of whom 718 were issued compounds and the rest, remanded.
Among the offences are failure to wear a mask (277), not providing entry logs and equipment at business premises (137), not practising social distancing (128), and undertaking interstate and inter-district travel without police permission (73). – The Vibes, January 20, 2021
