ALOR STAR – Another three Health Ministry hospitals in Kedah are being used to treat Covid-19 cases, in view of the increase in patients at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) here.
State Health and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mohd Hayati Othman told reporters here today that the three are Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH) in Sg Petani, Kuala Nerang Hospital and Kulim Hospital.
“HSB was the only hospital for Covid-19 treatment in the state. Based on information received today from the state Health Department, the hospital’s Covid-19 ward is at 72% occupancy, while its intensive care unit is 89% full.
“At Kulim (Hospital), which has a capacity of 300 beds for these patients, only 33 are occupied, while at Kuala Nerang (Hospital), there are 72 beds with 50 vacant. At HSAH, there are 200 beds, with 63 occupied.”
He said 110 Covid-19 patients in the state have been allowed to undergo home quarantine following their hospital treatment.
“All of them will be contacted by the state Health Department and nearest district health office every day to ensure they comply with the quarantine rules,” he said, adding that patients are required to wear the pink quarantine wristband and not allowed to leave their home. – Bernama, January 20, 2021
