KUALA LUMPUR – The government’s decision to allow eateries to operate until 10pm starting today will alleviate some of the severe challenges faced by businesses since the movement control order took effect, said the Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF).
President Datuk Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman said the decision to extend operating hours was welcomed, especially for restaurant operators who were facing massive losses, as some had even been forced to shut down.
“With the drastic drop in the number of customers during the MCO 2.0, restaurant operators were desperately struggling to meet their cost of operations, such as rental, salaries, loan repayments and utility costs, and the increasing prices of goods.
“In view of the circumstances, we are thankful to the government for its continual interventions to finetune the delicate balance between saving lives and livelihoods,” he said in a statement today.
Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced yesterday that the government had agreed to allow eateries and food delivery services in states that come under the MCO to operate until 10pm, from 8pm previously, starting today. – Bernama, January 22, 2021
