SHAH ALAM – The Covid-19 quarantine and low-risk treatment centre at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) is still able to accommodate patients, said the Selangor health director.
Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman told Bernama yesterday that the average bed usage at the centre is between 3,000 and 3,500, and there are still about 5,000 beds not yet used.
“At the MAEPS (low-risk treatment centre), there are a total of 9,350 beds available for Category 1 and Category 2 patients. Now, we have placed (another) 60 beds for Category 3 and Category 4 patients.
“The centre is not only designed to receive cases from Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, but also from Melaka, Negri Sembilan and Johor.”
His comments come after several clips showing congestion at the facility made the rounds on social media.
Dr Sha’ari confirmed that a recent Covid-19 infection involving a nurse at Shah Alam Hospital was due to community transmission, and not from within the hospital itself.
He said close contacts of the nurse, who is undergoing treatment, have tested negative for the coronavirus. – Bernama, January 25, 2021
