KUALA LUMPUR – Owing to the rising number of Covid-19 cases at Taiping Prison and its staff quarters in Perak, the premises will be put under the enhanced movement control order from tomorrow until February 8.
Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said in a statement that the Health Ministry had detected 43 Covid-19 cases since Saturday involving 40 detainees and three prison staff at the facility.
He said that the EMCO is to curb the spread of the virus to other inmates, staff, family members, and nearby communities.
On another matter, Ismail Sabri said that the supply of necessities and essential goods is presently sufficient and will continue to meet the needs of the country.
He said the enforcement division of the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry conducted daily monitoring on 11 types of goods’ supplies at 748 business premises, including retailers (574 premises), wholesalers (146), and manufacturers (28).
The enforcement officers also conducted 1,835 special inspections for MCO standard operating procedure compliance and found 1,794 compliant premises while 21 other premises were advised to improve.
Fourteen premises received warnings while six premises were compounded.
Meanwhile, he said Ops Benteng, held to curb illegal entry at Malaysian borders, rounded up 18 undocumented migrants and seized 10 vehicles yesterday.
As of yesterday, a total of 77 sanitation operations involving 34 red zones, four orange zones, seven yellow zones, and two green zones were executed nationwide.
A total of 717 individuals were arrested and issued compounds yesterday for flouting movement curbs, said Ismail Sabri, with the top offence being not wearing a mask (117 cases). – The Vibes, January 25, 2021
