JOHOR BARU – A couple and their baby, left stranded for two weeks in the state following the reinstated movement control order (MCO 2.0), have received help from the state Social Welfare Department and will be sent back to their house in Kuala Selangor.
Muhammad Khairil Karim, 38, said he and his wife, Hamida Kadir, 36, and their 6-month-old baby, Mohammad Rizki, have been stranded at his adopted brother’s house in Kg Melayu Majidee, here, after the sudden implementation of the MCO, which began on January 13.
“I learnt about the implementation of the MCO when I arrived at the Larkin Bus Terminal on January 13. Because of that, I could not cross the state’s borders and had to temporarily board at my adopted brother’s house.
“The intention was to return to my in-laws’ house in Segamat, but we couldn’t cross the district,” Khairil, a contract worker, said when met at a homeless food distribution centre at Dataran Tun Sri Lanang here today.
The department learnt of the fate that befell the family while distributing food at the centre.
Khairil said his family’s situation was made worse when he misplaced his wallet and lost important documents, such as his identity card and driving licence.
State welfare department director Mohamad Hapil said the department will send the family home to Kg Hujung Permatang in Kuala Selangor early tomorrow morning using its official vehicle.
He said his team has so far helped eight families in such situations, including those from Terengganu and Pahang. – Bernama, January 26, 2021
