GEORGE TOWN – A teenager charged with killing her newborn baby by throwing her out of a window has been released on RM90,000 bail by the high court here.
Lawyer RSN Rayer when contacted said his client, M. Santhiea, 19, was released on bail today at 1.45pm. Earlier, she was detained at the Perlis Correctional Centre.
Rayer said judicial commissioner Datuk Amirudin Abd Rahman had allowed Santhiea’s application to be released on RM90,000 bail with two sureties on January 15, and ordered his client to report to the Air Itam Police Station every Saturday.
He said the court also ordered his client to surrender all travel documents to the court, and banned her from applying for any travel document, including a passport.
The teenager is also required to be at home from 7pm to 7am each day, and is not allowed to leave the state without court permission.
On July 16 last year, Santhiea was charged in the magistrates’ court with killing her newborn daughter at her family home in Air Itam here. The charge was read out to her at the Penang Hospital maternity ward, where she had been admitted for treatment.
She was charged with causing the infant’s death at Sri Ivory Apartment in Bandar Baru Ayer Itam at 8.25am on July 10 last year. She was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death sentence upon conviction. – Bernama, January 27, 2021
