PUTRAJAYA – Consumers can now check the halal status of any product or service instantly and easily by using the QR code scanner on the SmartHalal mobile app.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri said consumers can download the SmartHalal application on their smart devices and start using the QR code system.

“With only one scan, users can obtain various halal certification information that they want,” he said during the launch of the app streamed live on his Facebook page today.

The SmartHalal app, developed based on the Malaysian Halal Certification System (MYeHALAL), is a product of a collaboration between the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, Islamic Development Department (Jakim) and state religious departments.

According to Zulkifli, the app will make it easier for users to obtain the location of or information about suppliers that are recognised and have been given the halal certification by the authorities.

Among features of the SmartHalal app are the latest announcements concerning the halal industry, location search via Google Maps and Waze, and product information search.

Zulkifli said Jakim will continue updating and improving the QR code system to ensure it remains relevant and up to date. – Bernama, January 29, 2021
