KOTA BELUD – A school clerk has braved pouring rain and knee-deep floodwaters to deliver home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) materials to students in Kg Pituru here.
Shafiq Shazwan Juhen, 23, who works at SMK Pekan II Kota Belud, said the materials had to be delivered to more than 20 students, who do not have good internet connection at home.
“The village has slow internet connection, especially when it’s raining, so it’s difficult to participate in the PdPR sessions online,” he told Bernama.
“Some students will sit the SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) examinations, so I do not want them to be left out.”
He said floods often cut off access to the village, which has only one main road linking it to Kota Belud town.
“On that day (December 17 last year), it just so happened that the teachers wanted to give learning materials to students in Kg Pituru, and I volunteered to do so.
“To prevent the materials from getting wet, I wrapped them in plastic. My car couldn’t get through, so I had no choice but to wade through the floodwaters.”
Principal Jainol Sair said the delivery of PdPR materials is an “offline approach” to assist students with poor internet connectivity at home.
He said the school will deliver the materials to students with the help of the parent-teacher association and school guards. – Bernama, January 30, 2021
