MIRI – Sarawak is bracing for another round of floods, with heavy rain forecast next week.

The Meteorological Department today said thunderstorms are expected in the coming days, especially in Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Sarikei, Betong, Sibu, Bintulu, Limbang and here.

Today, Serian and Simunjan saw flooding in several villages.

The state Disaster Management Committee, in its noon flood update, said 171 people from 48 households in Kg Lintang Baru and Kg Rimba Padi in Serian, and Simunjan’s Lubok Bantin have been moved to relief centres.

The affected residents were evacuated by Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Force teams early today, after their houses were inundated following downpours last night.

Community halls in the vicinity of the affected villages have been turned into shelters for the evacuees. – The Vibes, January 31, 2021
