MIRI – Another five Sibu Hospital staff and three at Miri Hospital have been infected with Covid-19, taking the number of Sarawak healthcare workers down with the disease to about 90.
The eight frontliners are among the 121 new cases reported today in the state.
The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat, in a statement, said the health workers tested positive at their respective hospitals.
Of the fresh cases statewide, Sibu recorded 37, Miri (25), Kapit (21) and Dalat (12), with other districts registering fewer than 10.
There are still 12 active clusters in Sarawak, said the secretariat.
Sibu Hospital is treating 862 coronavirus patients, Miri Hospital (315), Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching (159), Bintulu Hospital (132), Kapit Hospital (138), Sarikei Hospital (24) and Limbang Hospital (4).
The state’s death toll remains 39.
The secretariat added that 45 illegal foreign workers were arrested in Sibu during a raid by the Immigration Department and police.
Their employer, who was also arrested, was fined RM225,000 after pleading guilty to hiring illegals. – The Vibes, February 2, 2021
