KUCHING – Serian is the third district to be hit by fresh floods in Sarawak, with 55 residents of two villages evacuated since yesterday afternoon, taking total evacuees to 140 people.
According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee secretariat, 32 of the district’s flood victims are from six families in Kg Slabi Entukuh, about 70km from here.
They are being housed at a relief centre set up at a community hall in the village.
Twenty-three victims from five families in Kg Melayu Tebakang Serian were evacuated to the relief centre at the SK Tebakang hall, which was opened at 4pm yesterday.
The remaining flood victims comprise 77 people from 27 families from the Kulleh longhouse in Nanga Embuau, Song district, located 110km from Sibu.
They have been housed at the SK Nanga Embuau relief centre since Tuesday.
Eight people from two families from Kg Dagang Tatau are seeking shelter at the sports hall in Tatau district, some 60km from Bintulu. – Bernama, February 4, 2021
