JAKARTA – The highlight of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s official visit to Indonesia today is the face-to-face meeting between him and Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

The meeting will take place at the presidential palace, Istana Merdeka, here.

Muhyiddin is scheduled to arrive at the palace at 10.30am (11.30am in Malaysia) and will be accorded an official welcoming ceremony before the meeting.

The meeting between both leaders will see strict adherence to Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

A Malaysian diplomat in Indonesia recently shared with the media the significance of the meeting.

“There are several things that touch on the interests of both countries, that require the highest-level face-to-face and heart-to-heart discussions,” said Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Zainal Abidin Bakar.

Both leaders will hold a joint press conference later before performing Friday prayers at the Baiturrahim Mosque within the palace complex.

The president, popularly known as Jokowi, will host an official banquet for the prime minister and his small entourage at another presidential palace, Istana Negara, here, again with strict SOPs in place.

Muhyiddin who arrived in the republic at 4.30pm yesterday will conclude his official visit in less than 24 hours.

The visit is held at the invitation of the Indonesian president, and is Muhyiddin’s first official visit since assuming office in March last year. – Bernama, February 5, 2021
