Sarawak flood evacuees near 1,000

KUCHING – The number of evacuees in Sarawak, which has been hit with fresh floods this week, rose to 985 this morning from 577 yesterday.

The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat said Serian, some 60km from the city centre here, is the worst-affected district with 710 evacuees.

It said another eight relief centres were opened yesterday, taking the number of such facilities to 18.

There is one shelter in Tatau district, Simunjan (4), Samarahan (2) and Serian (11). – Bernama, February 5, 2021
