KUALA LUMPUR – Gerakbudaya founder Chong Ton Sin spent an hour at Bukit Aman here today being questioned by police over former attorney-general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas’ book.
Chong told Malaysiakini that he was not informed which section of the law applies to his questioning.
“I cannot remember which department. The officer just asked normal questions like from where I obtained the contents of the book and where the printing was done,” he was quoted as saying.
This comes after Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani today confirmed that seven reports had been lodged against Thomas over his memoir, My Story: Justice in the Wilderness.
It was also reported that the book might be banned by the Home Ministry.
Sources said a report has been submitted to Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, adding that it is his call on whether to ban the publication.
Thomas’ predecessor, Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali, has also lodged a report over the contents of the book.
Apandi, who filed the report at the Sentul police headquarters at 3pm yesterday, told reporters that the book has baseless attacks and accusations against him.
Yesterday, Umno Youth exco members Muhamad Nur Aizat Noor Azam and Datuk Muhammad Muqharabbin Mokhtarrudin lodged a report against Thomas over his book.
They said its content could harm the image of the country’s judiciary and legal system.
On Wednesday, Selangor police said Thomas will be called in for questioning following a report against him.
This came after former senior deputy public prosecutor Datuk Mohamad Hanafiah Zakaria lodged a report on Tuesday, alleging that Thomas defamed him and tarnished his reputation.
According to the report, Hanafiah wants the matter to be investigated under Section 499 of the Penal Code for defamation against him and other officers from the Attorney-General’s Chambers. – The Vibes, February, 5, 2021
