KUALA LUMPUR – Excerpts from former attorney-general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas’ memoir made it into today’s hearing at the Shah Alam High Court of Cradle Fund CEO Nazrin Hassan’s murder trial.

Defence lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah raised the issue of contempt as alleged in the book, reported Malaysiakini.

He is representing Nazrin’s widow, Samirah Muzzaffar, among others.

Co-defence counsel Rahmat Hazlan said Thomas’ book contains sub judice statements, specifically on the description of events made by three of the accused in the case.

The defence said the book touched on the merits of an ongoing criminal trial, as well as evidence not yet presented during proceedings.

The judge referred the matter to the prosecution, but lawyers said they need to consult their superiors before making a decision.

Rahmat told Malaysiakini that if the prosecution chooses not to proceed with the contempt charges, the defence will file a written application to cite Thomas. – The Vibes, February 5, 2021
