KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today registered 3,391 new Covid-19 cases and 19 deaths, reported the Health Ministry.
It said 85 virus fatalities have been recorded this month alone.
Of the new deaths, seven were in Kuala Lumpur, Sabah (5), Selangor and Sarawak (3 each), and Perak (1). Two victims were foreigners.
The latest infections take the overall tally to 234,874, of which 48,751 are active.
The national death toll now stands at 845.
Another 3,392 recoveries were recorded, while 310 patients are in intensive care, with 134 on ventilators.
Of the new cases, four are imported.
Selangor continues to top the list with 1,228 fresh cases, followed by Johor (598) and Kuala Lumpur (395).
Sabah registered 196 new cases, followed by Sarawak (178), Penang (149), Melaka (141) and Negri Sembilan (116).
States with fewer than 100 infections are Perak (92), Kedah (91), Terengganu (84), Kelantan (58), Pahang (51), Labuan (7), Putrajaya (6) and Perlis (1).
The ministry detected 15 fresh clusters, of which five are in Selangor.
The Jalan Mokhtar cluster, with 25 cases, was identified after targeted screening at a market in Klang.
The Jalan Enam Belas cluster in Petaling registered 41 infections, while the Bandar Teknologi cluster, identified after targeted screening at a factory in Kajang, has 30.
The Persiaran Jaya cluster has 17 infections, while the Jalan Lima cluster involving Sepang and Hulu Langat logged 24.
In Johor, two clusters involving workplaces were identified.
The Rumbia Dua cluster in Johor Baru recorded 133 infections, while the Jalan Sri Sengkang cluster in Kulai has 126. Both clusters were detected following targeted screening at factories.
The Jalan Jubilee cluster in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, was identified after targeted screening at a care centre, where 25 infections were detected.
In Penang, the Jalan Valdor construction site cluster has 53 infections.
In Negri Sembilan, the Industri TTJ cluster recorded 61 infections involving factory workers.
The Jalan Jun Heng cluster in Bintulu, Sarawak, saw 19 out of 102 individuals testing positive for Covid-19.
In Pahang, four clusters were identified, namely Taman Murni, Hikmah Muadzam, Industri Bentong Sebelas and Santong Paka.
The Hikmah Muadzam and Industri Bentong Sebelas clusters recorded seven infections each, Taman Murni (13) and Santong Paka (26). – The Vibes, February 5, 2021
