JOHOR BAHRU – Lembaga Kemajuan Johor Tenggara (Kejora) is in the process of identifying the losses experienced by the agricultural and livestock sector in its area, following the recent floods in the state.
Its chairman Datuk Che Zakaria Mohd Salleh said Kejora management would channel aid after the evaluation process was completed and the form of assistance would be determined according to the damage and losses involved.
As many as 30 entrepreneurs lease land from Kejora and they cultivate cash crops such as pineapple, papaya, durian and coconut as well as rear fish on their farms, said Che Zakaria who is also Permas state assemblyman.
“Kejora is in the midst of gathering information on losses incurred. We are aware that 30 tenants were affected, but so far only six have come forward. We are waiting for the others to lodge their complaints.
"We will discuss and look into the form of assistance to be given,” he told reporters after delivering food basket aids at Taman Bukit Rinting, Masai here today.
He urged those who have not reported on their crop damage to make an immediate complaint to ensure assistance could be provided as soon as possible.
On the provision of food baskets worth RM50 to 60 recipients including taxi drivers and school bus drivers among the B40 group in the Taman Rinting and Sri Plentong zones, Che Zakaria said it was an initiative in helping those affected during the implementation of the current movement control order (MCO).
“The contribution is to help alleviate the people’s burden and this programme will be held again before Ramadan with an estimated 200 recipients, involving taxi drivers in the Pasir Gudang area,” he said. – Bernama, February 6, 2021
