KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today registered 3,847 new Covid-19 infections, bringing the country’s active infections to 50,894 cases.
The Health Ministry said that the nation’s cumulative cases are at 238,721.
Today, the country also saw 12 new deaths, pushing the toll to 857.
Selangor, with 1,481 new cases, remains the state with the most fresh infections.
It is followed by Johor with 585 cases, Kuala Lumpur (402), Melaka (329), Sabah (233), Penang (211), Sarawak (185), and Negri Sembilan (133).
States with fewer than 100 cases are Kedah (64), Kelantan (62), Terengganu (56), Pahang (48), Perak (36), Labuan (10), Putrajaya (8), and Perlis (4).
As for the 12 victims, eight were Malaysians and four were non-citizens.
Some 441 clusters remain active with 12 new ones identified by the ministry today.
Selangor has five new clusters, the majority being worksites.
The Industri Kg Baru cluster involving the Petaling district came about after a targeted screening at a factory. Of the 450 individuals tested, 167 were found positive.
The Jalan Banting-Klang cluster in Kuala Langat was identified after a targeted screening of a factory where 13 people were infected.
The Gudang Salak Tinggi cluster was a result of a targeted screening of a services company where 42 cases were logged, while the Jalan Kuala Selangor cluster concerns a school in Kg Tg Karang, where 11 cases were detected.
The Lingkaran Cyber cluster involving Sepang and Petaling came after a targeted screening of a supermarket where 24 individuals tested positive.
Johor has three clusters – Jalan Tun Mutalib in Kota Tinggi with six cases, Jalan Istimewa Tujuh in Johor Baru with 29, and Jalan Bayu Satu with 18. They were detected after targeted screenings of factory workers.
Terengganu’s two clusters have a total of 41 cases. The Gong Nering cluster in Besut was detected after workers of a services company were screened for Covid-19 and 26 were found infected.
The Jalan Kubur Darau cluster, also in Besut, was recorded after the screening of symptomatic individuals. Of the 42 high-risk individuals, 15 infections were recorded.
Kuala Lumpur’s Sg Besi construction site cluster in Cheras was identified after a targeted screening. Of 113 individuals screened, 12 were positive.
Lastly, the Jalan Chester cluster in Tawau, Sabah, was recorded after screening individuals with symptoms, involving workers at a goldsmith. Of the 19 screened, 10 tested positive. – The Vibes, February 6, 2021
