KUALA LUMPUR – Some 643 individuals were arrested yesterday for flouting the movement control order's (MCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said in his daily Covid-19 updates that 623 were issued compounds while another 20 were under remanded custody.
“Among the offences recorded were not wearing face masks (144), crossing district/state borders without permission (112), no physical distancing (133), failure to prepare record keeping equipment for customers (112), premises operating after the approved time/without approval (34), leaving the house without good reason (42) and others (66).”
The police-led task force, comprising 4,460 compliance teams and 13,302 personnel, had conducted 73,561 inspections.
Meanwhile, the Op Benteng border patrol had arrested 14 illegal migrants and seized five land transport vehicles. The authorities had also detected 81 boats/vessels in Malaysian waters as well as two land vehicles in seven observation activities.
In total, Op Benteng saw the agencies conducting 607 road blocks yesterday.
On foreign workers' Covid-19 screenings, the Health Ministry reported that 299 out of 8,717 tested were found to be Covid-19 positive.
“Cumulatively since December 1, a total of 305,620 foreign workers have been screened for Covid-19 involving 13,202 employers.
“Of this, 6,028 were found to be Covid-19 positive while 299,592 recorded negative,” said Ismail Sabri, adding that 1,264 clinics are taking part in the screening programme.
Since February 1, the government has made it mandatory for all employers to ensure that their workers have undergone Covid-19 screenings and that the cost is borne by the employers. – The Vibes, February 6, 2021
