KOTA KINABALU – Foh Sang night market, the go-to place for Luyang’s Chinese community to stock up on festive goods, will be taking purchase orders online to adhere to the new normal.

Organised by DAP Luyang assemblyman Phoong Jin Zhe, the event aims to avoid crowding while providing a platform for consumers to buy Chinese New Year goods.

He said despite the federal government allowing night markets to open, there will definitely be crowding at a Chinese New Year market.

“We do not want to take the risk of creating a crowd, hence, the idea came about to run an online night market. We welcome the public to join the online market from their homes, where they can buy their favourite Chinese New Year products and watch performances virtually.”

The online Foh Sang Chinese New Year night market will be held on Tuesday from 6pm on Phoong’s official Facebook page.

The page for the event, which was announced yesterday, has gotten more than 1,000 likes and 200 shares.

“We understand that everyone misses home, the liveliness of the night markets, and the festive environment of Chinese New Year. We hope to recreate these familiar scenes online so that those away from home can still celebrate together.”

He hopes the online event will help promote local businesses and reduce their financial difficulties during the pandemic.

The event is still recruiting online vendors and performers.

Interested vendors can call 010-285-1308 while performers can contact 016-899-1137. – The Vibes, February 6, 2021
