GEORGE TOWN – The Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP) has urged the Health and Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministries to control the price of Covid-19 screening tests at private clinics so that they can be accessible to all.
CAP education officer N.V. Subbarow said that currently, the prices of the RT-PCR and RTK-Ag tests at private clinics range between RM220 and RM388 and RM90 and RM170, respectively.
He said CAP is worried that private clinics may impose higher charges if the test prices are not controlled.
“We (CAP) welcome the suggestion by Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah for price control on Covid-19 screening tests at private clinics,” he said in a statement today.
Subbarow said CAP also urges the Health Ministry and relevant authorities to take stern action against private clinics that impose higher charges for the test.
The Health Ministry previously said that it is studying measures to control the prices of the RT-PCR screening test at private hospitals and clinics, adding that they can be implemented through the emergency ordinance. – Bernama, February 7, 2021
