KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia logged 3,731 fresh Covid-19 cases and 15 deaths today, the Health Ministry said.
The new infections bring the cumulative number of cases to 242,452 and the death toll to 872.
The country also recorded 3,369 recoveries, bringing the total to 190,339. Eight of the new cases today were imported, the ministry said.
The ministry also said 292 cases are currently under intensive care, while 140 require intubation.
Selangor recorded the highest number of new infections with 1,606 cases, followed by Johor (499), Kuala Lumpur (372), Melaka (313), and Penang (250).
Sarawak saw 219 cases, followed by Sabah (160), Negri Sembilan (92), Perak (71), Kedah (43), Pahang (34), Kelantan (32), Terengganu (29), Putrajaya (9), and Perlis (2).
There were no new cases in Labuan.
Dr Noor Hisham said 43 cases today came from detention centres involving the Tembok Sg Udang (18), Tembok Taiping (9), Tembok Renggam (7), Jalan Harapan prison (5), Seberang Prai prison (3), and Tembok Mempaga (1) clusters.
He said the deaths today involved four in Selangor, three each in Kuala Lumpur and Sabah, and two in Sarawak. He added that Penang, Kedah, and Johor saw one death each.
“All of the deaths involved (Malaysian) citizens. The ministry extends its condolences to the members of all their families,” he said.
Dr Noor Hisham said the country has recorded a total of 895 clusters, including the seven new clusters seen today.
There are 454 clusters that have ended, including seven today, which are the Pintu Geng, Ehsan Ibol, Persiaran Heights, Langkasuka, Wawasan, Jalan BBN, and Texmile clusters.
He said three of today’s new clusters are workplace clusters, while two are community-related. Another two clusters involve a religious gathering and a high-risk group.
Selangor recorded the Lembah Selatan construction site cluster in Sepang with 222 cases and the Jalan Bagan cluster in Sabak Bernam with 22 cases. In Kuala Lumpur, the Ampang Campuran cluster in Cheras saw 14 cases.
Johor logged the Jalan Gangsa Dua cluster in Johor Baru with 30 cases, and Sarawak recorded the Seruas cluster in Miri and Beluru with 59 cases.
In Perak, the ministry discovered the Taman Segar cluster in Muallim with 16 cases, followed by the Lorong Mawar cluster in Hilir Perak with 14 cases. – The Vibes, February 7, 2021
