MIRI – Sarawak today saw two additional deaths confirmed as being due to the Covid-19 virus.
The death toll in the state from the coronavirus now stands at 50.
There were 219 new positive cases statewide today, said the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee secretariat in a statement.
A 92-year-old man and a 73-year-old woman, who both died in the Sibu Hospital yesterday, were confirmed by the health department as having succumbed to Covid-19.
Expressing its condolences, the secretariat said Sibu district continues to experience a surge in infections with 55 new cases today.
“Sibu is still seeing infections spreading fast,” the secretariat said.
Meanwhile, Song district saw 50 new cases, Beluru saw 35, Miri 32, Kapit 25 and several other districts recorded less than five new infections today.
In total, Sibu Hospital today has 964 Covid-19-positive patients, Miri Hospital has 334, Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching 171, Bintulu Hospital 167, Kapit Hospital 129, Sarikei Hospital 19 and Limbang Hospital four.
Sarawak now still has 15 active clusters to date. – The Vibes, February 7, 2021
