MIRI – The death toll from the Covid-19 pandemic in Sarawak continues to surge today, with three additional fatalities in the Sibu district.
This brings the state's death toll to 53, said the state Disaster Managenent Committee secretariat said in a statement today.
The three Covid-19 deaths today were all from the worst-hit Sibu district, said the secretariat.
The fatalities are of a 60-year-old woman, a 74-year-old man and an 89-year-old man, all of whom died at Sibu Hospital after being admitted in recent days.
The secretariat extended its condolences to the family members of the deceased and warned the people that the coronavirus situation in the state is still serious.
Today also saw 84 new cases statewide, with Sibu recording 24.
The secretariat said Song district saw 23 new cases, Miri (10), Bintulu (9) and several other districts fewer than five.
There are currently 15 active clusters in the state.
Sibu Hospital today was treating 903 virus patients, Miri Hospital (373), Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching (172), Bintulu Hospital (147), Kapit Hospital (211), Sarikei Hospital (24) and Limbang Hospital (1). – The Vibes, February 8, 2021
