[UPDATED] Malaysia’s deadliest day in Covid-19 fight sees 24 fatalities

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today recorded the most Covid-19 deaths in one day at 24, taking the nation’s death toll to 896.

Out of the 24, a total of 21 of the deceased were Malaysians, while three were foreigners.

Today also saw 3,100 new cases recorded, taking the total caseload to 245,552.

Out of the 245,552 cases, 21,977 infections remain active.

A total of 2,340 recoveries were recorded today, while 282 cases are in intensive care units and 134 require ventilators.

Selangor, again, recorded the highest number of infections at 1,196, followed by Johor with 490, Malacca (344), Kuala Lumpur (295), Penang (209), Sabah (169), Negri Sembilan (104), Sarawak (84) and Perak (72).

Kedah recorded 37 cases, Kelantan (30), Terengganu (30), Pahang (28), Putrajaya (eight), Perlis (four), while Labuan detected no cases.

As for clusters, 451 remain active, while the Health Ministry identified 13 new ones today.

The new ones include four from Selangor, which are the Jalan Teknologi cluster, Jalan Sg Rasa cluster, Taman Bina Persiaran Mokhtar cluster and Persiaran Hulu cluster, all involving worksites.

Johor also reported four new clusters, all concerning worksites, namely the Sri Menanti cluster, Jalan Harmonium cluster, Jalan Cyber Lima cluster and Laman Desaru cluster.

Kuala Lumpur, Terengganu and Sabah identified one cluster each, namely the Lengkok Pantai cluster, Batu 38 cluster and Kg Tandak cluster, respectively, all involving worksites.

The ministry identified the Sebangkoi cluster in Sarawak, while the Taman Bukit Petaling cluster in Negri Sembilan concerned high-risk individuals. – The Vibes, February 8, 2021
