KUALA LUMPUR – Production companies must apply for a special filming certificate from the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) before they are allowed to conduct studio filming activities without an audience.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah in a statement today said other than that, all production personnel involved must undergo Covid-19 screening and submit the results to Finas three days before the filming date.

He said applications can be made via the Finas website.

“Periodic monitoring will also be carried out at the filming location by Finas’ enforcement unit to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).”

Saifuddin said SOPs for outdoor filming activities, including live events, and cinema screenings are being detailed out and will be presented in the near future.

He said he hoped that improvements to the creative industry SOPs will help practitioners to continue to have a source of income.

He added that the improved SOPs apply during the movement control order, and details can be found on the websites of the ministry and National Security Council.

The government has decided to reopen the creative industry starting tomorrow, covering a list of activities that includes animation and music production, post-production in studio, digital music development, music recording in studio and pre-production filming.

Also permitted is filming in studio, comprising dramas, TV movies, commercials, documentaries, sitcoms, live streaming, cultural recordings, arts and heritage, without the presence of an audience. – Bernama, February 9, 2021
