MIRI – Almost 11,000 foreign workers in four Sarawak districts have yet to undergo compulsory Covid-19 screening.
State Labour Department director Awang Radman Awang Omar, in a statement, said it is leading a team to carry out checks on these workers in a move to curb the coronavirus’ spread.
“So far, we have carried out checks on 1,175 employers in Kuching, Samarahan, Lundu and Sematan (in southern Sarawak) as of yesterday.
“They employ 12,208 foreign workers, but 10,995 of these foreigners have not been screened for Covid-19.
“We have a 30-member team from our department, Socso (Social Security Organisation), Occupational Safety and Health Department, Immigration Department and other agencies on the ground now.”
He said his office has issued a warning to employers yet to send their foreign workers for virus screening.
They have been given 14 days to comply with the directive, he said.
In Limbang district, checks by Labour Department personnel found that three employers failed to send their workers for Covid-19 screening.
