KUALA LUMPUR – There have been no new Covid-19 clusters related to interstate travel as of yesterday, as Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba proposes extending the ban on interstate and inter-district travel after the movement control order (MCO) ends.
The health minister told Astro Awani that the ministry will apply for the travel ban to remain after February 18.
“We have seen daily cases decreasing, and the infectivity rate is below 1.0.”
The ministry tweeted Dr Adham as saying between December 7, 2020 and February 8, a total of 31 clusters involving interstate travel were recorded.
This resulted in 4,376 cases logged in eight states – Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah, Perak, Negri Sembilan, Sarawak and the Federal Territories.

Dr Adham added that yesterday’s caseload of 2,764 infections is markedly better than the record high of 5,728 cases on January 30.
He said the Federal Territories, Selangor, Penang, Melaka, Johor and Sabah are where infections arising from interstate travel originated from.
“This is a very good development as it shows the effectiveness of tighter enforcement during the MCO since February 4.
“It shows the rise in awareness among many quarters, and the effectiveness of compliance by not crossing borders, apart from practising the new norm that has been repeated by the ministry in its advisories.” – The Vibes, February 10, 2021
