KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia has breached 250,000 Covid-19 cases, with 3,288 new infections recorded today.
The country’s overall infections now stand at 251,604, said the Health Ministry in a statement this evening.
It reported another 14 virus fatalities, taking the death toll to 923.
Five of today’s deaths occurred in Selangor, Sabah (4), Johor (2), and Kedah, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya (1 each).
There were 1,929 new recoveries recorded, making for a total of 198,495.
Five of the fresh cases were imported, said the ministry.
It said 285 patients are in intensive care, with 131 on ventilators.
Selangor again has the most new cases at 1,757, followed by Kuala Lumpur (408), Johor (369), Sarawak (135), Negri Sembilan (157) and Sabah (132).
States with fewer than 100 cases are Melaka (92), Penang (59), Kedah (48), Kelantan (44), Perak (42), Terengganu (24), Pahang (14), Terengganu (24), Putrajaya (4) and Labuan (3).
Perlis is the sole state without fresh infections today.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 63 new cases are related to detention centres – Tembok Sg Udang (46), Tembok Pengkalan Chepa (7), Tembok Renggam (5), Tembok Bukit Besi (2), Tembok Taiping (1), Matambai cluster (1) and Kepayan Prison cluster (1).
He said the country has recorded 931 clusters, including 11 new ones today.
Of the total, 465 have been contained, including four today, namely the Jalan Genting, Harum, Medan Idalam and Wakaf Lanas clusters.
There are 466 clusters still active, with 82 seeing fresh cases. The clusters with the highest number of new cases are Tg Suria (356) in Sepang, Gombak, Kuala Selangor and Hulu Selangor; Persiaran Perkilangan (319) in Petaling and Klang; and, Jalan Cochrane (104) in Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur.
Seven of the 11 new clusters are workplace-related, while two are community clusters and another two involve high-risk groups, said Dr Noor Hisham.
In Selangor, the new clusters are Batu 20 in Gombak district with 42 cases and Industri Wawasan in Klang with 38, as well as the Persiaran Sepang construction site cluster with 29.
Kuala Lumpur has the Jalan Harun cluster in Cheras with nine cases, Jalan Dua Belas cluster in Kepong and Titiwangsa with 19, and Jalan Tandok construction site cluster with 25.
In Johor, the Jalan Uda Utama cluster in the state capital recorded 17 cases, Lorong Sahabat cluster in Kluang (17) and Jalan Kancil Waha cluster in Kota Tinggi (9).
Sabah logged the Jalan Tiga KKIP cluster in Kota Kinabalu with 11 cases, as well as the Lorong Bersatu Damai cluster in Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Penampang with 21. – The Vibes, February 10, 2021
