KUALA LUMPUR – The Health Ministry is looking for volunteers aged 60 and above to participate in Phase 3 of the Covid-19 clinical trial.
The ministry, in a post on its official Facebook and Twitter accounts, informed that around 350 to 450 senior citizens are needed for the study, which will also test the effectiveness and safety of the shot for the group.
“We welcome senior citizens who are interested in contributing to the development of the Covid-19 vaccine.”
The post said interested individuals can contact the nine hospitals involved, namely Ampang Hospital, Sarawak General Hospital, Penang Hospital, Seberang Jaya Hospital, Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Taiping Hospital, Sg Buloh Hospital and Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital.
It said this study is a collaboration between the ministry and the Institute of Medical Biology Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.
In the same post, the ministry said as of Tuesday, 8,162 individuals aged 18 and above have contacted the hospitals to volunteer for the clinical trial.
“As many as 1,512 of the volunteers, or 50%, have agreed to participate in the study, while 38% have received the first dose of the trial vaccine or placebo.” – Bernama, February 11, 2021
