SIBU – The closure of the Sibu Central Market, initially scheduled to end tomorrow, has been extended to Friday due to an increase in the district’s Covid-19 cases.
Municipal council chairman Clarence Ting, in a statement today, said the decision was made following a report from the health office.
“Our priority is to ensure the health and safety of traders and the general public.
“All traders at the Sibu Central Market are advised to undergo Covid-19 screening and use the Health Ministry’s drive-through testing facility at the state library building here.”
He said the decision on when to reopen the market will be made after taking into account traders’ coronavirus test results.
The market, which has more than 1,100 retail lots, was closed on February 2 and 3, and again from February 8. – Bernama, February 13, 2021
