MELAKA – Security at Covid-19 low-risk quarantine and treatment centres nationwide will be enhanced to prevent untoward incidents, including theft, from taking place, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof.
He said more Civil Defence Force (CDF) personnel will be deployed to the 391 centres still in operation.
“When there are many people, various problems can arise, so what we can do is improve security at these centres.
“With the presence of more CDF members, patrols can be done more often,” he told reporters here today.
His comments follow a theft at the Malaysian Agricultural Exposition Park Serdang quarantine centre, which saw the arrest of two men suspected of stealing four mobile phones belonging to patients.
Redzuan added that the government, through the National Disaster Management Agency, will undertake the Community Empowerment Volunteer Programme to educate the public on the importance of complying with Covid-19 standard operating procedures.
The initiative will also involve civil society groups and community leaders, he said. – Bernama, February 13, 2021
